Muncie, IN (August 17, 2022) – Yesterday, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF), in partnership with Group 1001 and the City of Muncie, announced the official opening of the Foundation’s Youth Development Park (YDP). This multi-purpose turf park is located on the grounds of Gainbridge Field at McCulloch Park in Muncie, Indiana.
This is the110th YDP to be built through the CRSF and gifted to a youth-serving organization. The Gainbridge Field is a direct result of the Foundation’s partnership with Group1001 that began in 2018 with a $5M gift. The park’s official opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with appearances from Cal Ripken, Jr., Mayor Dan Ridenour, representatives of both the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and Group 1001, and other leading community members.
Group 1001 has supported the transformation of multiple YDP projects across the country, and funded many CRSF programs that impact underserved communities every day as part of its strong commitment to service and community transformation. Group 1001 invests in strategic partnerships as part of their mission to transform communities through sports and education.
“The Group 1001 team and the Ripken Foundation share a strong commitment to service and community through programs focused on improving kids’ lives in underserved communities,’’ said Dan Towriss, CEO & President of Group 1001. We have been working together for several years and are very proud of the impact we have made together. We’re happy to take this partnership far and wide and see it culminate into such a great park for the kids of Muncie.”
By the end of 2022, Group 1001’s partnership with CRSF will have developed 14 Youth Development Parks in states including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
Baseball Hall of Famer and Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation Co-Founder, Cal Ripken, Jr. added, “Group 1001 is a special partner, and thanks to them we continue to make a positive change in the lives of kids. We are thankful for their commitment to providing athletic resources for kids to inspire them to make healthy lifestyle choices, as well as create opportunities for them to grow and learn new things. We can’t wait to see the impact the kids of Muncie will have with this new park at Gainbridge Field.”
