On June 11, Group 1001 kicked off its summer corporate volunteer program, 1001 Hours of Impact, with a wall build with Habitat for Humanity of Boone County. The aim of 1001 Hours of Impact is for employees across all offices and locations to collectively secure 1,001+ volunteer hours from June through August.
True to Group 1001’s commitment to transforming communities through education and sports, Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark – brand ambassador for Gainbridge®, a Group 1001 company – and Indiana Pacers’ Isaiah Jackson were part of the kick-off event. Future Habitat for Humanity homeowner Dusten Krost and his three children - Eli, Megan, and Ava - had the chance to meet Clark and Jackson and shoot hoops with them.
During the event, Dusten said, “Today is just an amazing day for us. It means that we are going to have stable housing and don't have to worry about where we are going to be next year. They are going to have a place that they can set their stuff down and call home.”
Clark brought the energy, assembling a custom Pacers, Fever, Gainbridge®, and Group 1001 basketball hoop. Not to mention her viral block playing 1-on-1 with Eli. Jackson shot hoops with the Krost kids on their new basketball hoop, assembled flower boxes, and joined volunteers in the wall build.
For the Krost family, the journey to homeownership has not been easy. Dusten has had custody of his three children since 2018, and their housing situation became difficult when their trailer caught fire in 2021. With increased rent prices, a permanent solution was necessary.
“Dusten and his kids have been to seven wall builds and they are finally at their wall build so I am just so proud of them,” said Liz Qua, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Boone County. “Having this partnership with Group 1001, my cup overflows.”
The week ended with a special Father’s Day gift for the Krost family. On Father’s Day, Group 1001 gifted the family courtside, front-row seats to the Fever game. The family arrived at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and reunited with Clark on the court, plus met other Fever teammates. The Fever gifted the family hats, shoes, shirts, and more. Then, they got to watch the Fever defeat the Chicago Sky.
The start of a new home, meeting Caitlin Clark and Isaiah Jackson, and Fever courtside seats happened all in one week for the deserving Krost family. The kick off event was a success for Group 1001 employees, too—more than 200 employees participated in the wall build, collectively securing 410 volunteer hours.
