Employees Make a Difference Through Volunteering

Group 1001 employees are making an impact in their communities through volunteering. Outside of our corporate volunteer program, 1001 Hours of Impact, many have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to causes close to their hearts. Here are a few ways Group 1001 employees are creating a better tomorrow.

Pato Moschcovich, Lead Backend Developer

ENGin connects English-speaking volunteers with motivated Ukrainians for online speaking practice and cross-cultural exchange. Pato started volunteering with ENGin last year during our inaugural 1001 Hours of Impact.

“It is very rewarding, and I would also encourage others to volunteer. By volunteering with ENGin, you help Ukraine by raising its mastery of the English language, which in turn opens doors for commerce, research, friendship, and more. After meeting weekly for more than a year, my student and I became buddies. We genuinely care about each other. My buddy thanks me for my time after each session. And every time, I thank her because we both benefit from this exchange. My buddy's life and mine are much better thanks to our weekly meetings!"

Dee Kirkland, Mailroom Clerk

Westfield Welcome is passionate about serving neighbors and offering fun experiences for residents and visitors alike. This would not be possible without its network of dedicated volunteers who help at community events or care for parks and trails.

“Volunteering in my community is deeply important because it allows me to give back and foster a sense of connection and belonging. By representing my community at events like the Indianapolis Colts Training Camp, I have the opportunity to create a welcoming environment for others and help showcase the vibrant spirit of our area. It's incredibly fulfilling to be part of something larger than myself, and it's a way for me to contribute positively and build strong, supportive relationships within my community."

Mark McCallister, Managing Director, Internal Audit

Mark and his wife shop for the Carmel United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Using member donations, they go to local stores once a week and purchase milk, bread, eggs, fruit, and vegetables.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to use the volunteer hours provided by Group 1001. I focus 100% of my charitable giving on the Carmel United Methodist Food Pantry, Gleaners Food Bank, and my home church in West Virginia, St. Andrew United Methodist. My dad instilled the desire to donate to these organizations and help others who cannot help themselves or have come through rough times.

This year, my wife and I have provided funding for the Carmel garden, which has produced hundreds of pounds of fresh vegetables for those in need. I utilized the Group 1001 Gives match to donate entirely to Gleaners. We will also provide funding to St. Andrew to help with Christmas food baskets for 50 families. We have never known what not having food feels like, and if we can in some way prevent that for someone else, then we are going to try to do all we can.”

Tamara Galbraith, Contract Administration Representative

The Gathering Together offers a compassionate and supportive environment where end-of-life guests and their families can find solace and care. The home and services they provide are free of charge.

“I volunteered for The Gathering in the Garden, one of their annual fundraising events. I helped maintain the memorial gardens, ironed table linens, and prepared centerpiece decorations and food. This place is very special to me. This wonderful organization helps families and their loved ones during their final stage of life. When we help others during their time of need, we can find beauty in the dark moments. I look forward to volunteering again at the fall event.”

Sharon Pirhala Chabot, Senior Business Systems Analyst

Sharon has been fundraising for the CMAK Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation since 2013 and organized eight charity events. This summer, she volunteered during a live event, the Race4Chase Kids Triathlon.

“I volunteered for the CMAK Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation's Race4Chase Kids Triathlon South Carolina finale. The CMAK Foundation is inspired by Chase Michael Anthony Kowalski's life and honors his memory through its works and activities to heal and strengthen children, families, and communities. This cause is so important to me. I’m grateful for 1001 Hours of Impact and shining a light on volunteering in our communities.”

Jeff Howe, Technical Writer

Fisher Houses are located at VA hospitals across the country and in Europe. They provide complimentary housing and meals for patients’ families and loved ones during their treatment, whether for a few days or months. The Friends of Fisher House raise money to build the houses and maintain and upgrade existing ones.

“I have helped at the St. Louis charity golf tournament for the past two years. The goal of the Fisher Houses—to improve medical outcomes by keeping the affected veterans and their family members together when it’s most important—is compassionate and pragmatic, which has a lot of appeal to me.”

Jeff Rosen, Corporate Executive Advisor

Jeff and his wife, Ashley, have been involved with the Animal Care Society of Louisville, Ky., for 30+ years at different levels, including board directors and now volunteers. Jeff recently started walking and spending time with the shelter dogs weekly and loves it.

“The dogs are so happy to spend time with people. We help them prepare to ‘sell themselves’ to prospective new families. I think it helps the dogs a lot, but I also know I get a lot out of being with them. I love it and expect to continue to hang out with these pups for the foreseeable future.”
