Group 1001 Women Help Build Home for Family

Ten women from Group 1001 joined together for one goal: to help build the foundation for a deserving family’s home in Lebanon, Ind.

In August, Habitat for Humanity of Boone County visited the Zionsville office to speak about its mission and volunteer opportunities as part of the company’s 1001 Hours of Impact. Group 1001 employees were eager and excited to participate in this year’s Women Build. Group 1001 understands the importance of giving back and creating a positive impact on the lives of others.

The house under construction will be built by women-only teams of 10 volunteering daily over 10 weeks to help a deserving mother in need of safe and secure housing.

The family that will move in later this year is Jolisa and her three children, a senior, freshman, and sixth grader, all in Lebanon schools. Her goal when applying for their own home was to gather and invite people into a safe space to do life together with love, connection, and conversation.

The Group 1001 team met Tuesday, September 5 at the new home site as one of the first groups to build. They spent the day removing debris, laying plastic down for the foundation vapor barrier, securing insulation, digging a very deep hole for the egress window in the crawl space, and doing other useful tasks making progress for the next group to lay the flooring. Habitat provided experienced construction experts on-site, guiding everyone through the entire process. Additionally, two future Habitat homeowners were on-site helping to build, which made the experience even more special.

"It feels good to say I was a part of the 2023 Women Build and it feels even better to say I did it with some amazing woman,” said Kelsey Kennedy, Legal Assistant. “We showed up with grit and grace and had a great time helping build a new home for a well-deserving mother and her kids. I hope the wonderful women at Group 1001 can come together with more teams for next year. It was an incredible opportunity."
