Group 1001 STEM Day at Purdue Polytechnic High School Brings Volunteers Into the Classroom

Six Group 1001 employees volunteered their time and talents on December 15 to discuss their careers and how they tie into STEM with 75 Purdue Polytechnic High School (PPHS) ninth-grade students. The opportunity was made possible through EVERFI from Blackbaud, which designs and delivers the curriculum in schools.

Our employees led an exciting career panel, where they shared their professional journeys, STEM learnings, and advice to ninth graders. As part of the Endeavor – STEM Career Exploration course, sponsored by Group 1001, breakout sessions were held where students worked together to build a basketball-focused data set led by Group 1001 employees.

Stanford graduate and Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull joined employees in helping students with data worksheets and engaged in a fireside chat about data in her basketball career. Students were also joined by Pacemates from the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever mascot Freddy Fever.

“We were thrilled to welcome Group 1001 employees to share their experiences and expertise with our students,” said Drew Goodin, PPHS Lead Instructor. “The more that these young people are exposed to STEM careers and opportunities, the better prepared they are to pursue careers beyond high school.”

Group 1001 employees included individuals from data services, financial analysis, lifefit testing, and actuarial validation departments.

Since 2018, Group 1001 has worked with EVERFI from Blackbaud, the leader in powering social impact through education to bring hands-on STEM teaching to classrooms nationwide and inspire the next generation of scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. Together, we have developed a community-empowerment program that helps build brighter futures. Read the full Executive Summary here
