Four Nashville schools received state-of-the-art STEM educational products, technology, furniture, and more
Nashville, TN (August 1, 2022) – Last week, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, in partnership with Group 1001, announced the opening of new STEM Centers at four Nashville schools. In addition to Group 1001 initiating funding for three schools, Nashville Public Schools invested in a fourth to receive a STEM Center. McKissack Middle School, McMurray Middle School, Amqui Elementary School, and Cumberland Elementary School received state-of-the-art STEM educational products, technology, furniture, and more. The event was held at Amqui Elementary School, beginning July 28 and concluding July 29 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Teachers from each of the Nashville schools participated in STEM equipment training on July 29. The ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of the new centers and introduced students to new educational products and technology for the first time.
"Students cannot be what they cannot see, nor can they love what they do not experience,” said Dr. Jennifer Berry, Director of STEAM & Science for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. “It is so exciting for our schools to receive Ripken STEM Centers where students will engage in real world learning applicable to their lives during and after school. STEAM practices help students become critical thinkers, collaborators, creative, communicative, and problem solvers that are vital to the future of our great city and we are thankful and appreciative of the partnership with Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation for their support and collaboration in this effort."
Including its recent five-year, $5 million pledge, Group 1001 has committed $10 million to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation from 2018 to 2027. These new STEM Centers are the latest project of this renewed partnership. The provided funds have and will support STEM Centers, Youth Development Parks, Community Enhancement Projects, Healthy Lifestyles programs, and I'm GREAT programs. To date, the partnership has resulted in an estimated 66,000 youth impacted, 985 mentors engaged, nine STEM Centers opened and 14 Youth Development Parks (YDPs) completed. These programs and parks have been activated in Nashville, Indianapolis, Miami, and other communities around the country.
