Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and Group 1001 Open Three STEM Centers in Indianapolis

Three Indianapolis schools received state-of-the-art STEM educational products, technology, furniture, and more.

INDIANAPOLIS (May 25, 2022) – Yesterday, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, in partnership with Group 1001, announced the opening of new STEM Centers at three Indianapolis schools. Henry W. Longfellow Middle School, Paul Miller Elementary School, and Christian Park Elementary School received state-of-the-art STEM educational products, technology, furniture, and more. The two-day event was held at Henry W. Longfellow Middle School, beginning May 23 and concluding May 24 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Teachers from the selected Indianapolis schools participated in STEM equipment training on May 24. The ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of the new centers and introduced students to educational products and technology for the first time.

“We are thrilled to bring these new STEM Centers to the Indianapolis School District,” said Steve Salem, Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation CEO & President. “Thanks to our partnership with Indianapolis’ own Group 1001, we can open these centers, and provide training and education to teachers and students, positively impacting them for years to come.”

“Education and sports have the power to transform communities. Group 1001 is proud to join with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation to open three state-of-the-art STEM Centers in Indianapolis,” said Dan Towriss, Group 1001 CEO & President. “These centers will introduce students to the power of technology and set them on the path for lifetime achievements.”

Including its recent five-year, $5 million pledge, Group 1001 has committed $10 million to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation from 2018 to 2027. These new STEM Centers are the latest project of this renewed partnership. The provided funds have and will support STEM Centers, Youth Development Parks, Community Enhancement Projects, Healthy Lifestyles programs, and I'm GREAT programs. To date, the partnership has resulted in an estimated 66,000 youth impacted, 985 mentors engaged, six STEM Centers opened and 14 Youth Development Parks (YDPs) completed. These programs and parks have been activated in Indianapolis, Miami, Nashville, and other communities around the country.
